Africana Studies
This course is designed for students to explore African culture and history: past, present, and future Incorporating the areas of Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Some of the topics covered will be the geography of the African continent, early African empires, Triangle Trade and slavery, European Scramble for Africa, and African Independence. Africana Studies will also focus on African Americans during Reconstruction, the Jim Crow Era, the Civil Rights Movement, and the present including their influence on international civil rights such as the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Africana Studies will also explore the influences and cultural contributions of the African Diaspora in the fields of music, art, literature, science, and politics through an international lens.
