Ancient World History (World History I)
World History I Honors is a ninth grade SOL course. This course is designed to provide students a foundational understanding of early world events, dating back to prehistoric eras and continuing through the beginning of the Renaissance (1500 A.D.). In this class, we will talk about the beginnings of early African civilizations, Middle Eastern civilizations, early Europe including Rome and Greece, ancient Chinese dynasties, and early American civilizations. We will learn about the conflicts and interactions these civilizations had between each other, as well as the individual cultures and religions of these groups. This class is designed to study the principles of these topics in order to build a better understanding of the society in which we live today. Because this is an Honors course, students that are enrolled will be working towards an advanced diploma and/or college level track. The workload will be rigorous but manageable if students apply themselves in and out of the classroom.
